Book buzz - featuring Neluka Silva and Delon Weerasinghe (01/12/2008)

The Book Buzz series is back in action presenting the acclaimed Sri Lankan writers Neluka Silva and Delon Weerasinghe. The Book Buzz series forms a part of the British Council’s ‘animating literature’ program that  offers ‘young’ UK and Sri Lankan writers the opportunity of being read and heard by a larger and wider audience while also giving an opportunity for established writers to reach a new and wider audience. All writers showcased and featured in the Book Buzz series are members of the writers' website www.writeclique.net

Neluka Silva is an academic, writer and the founder/director of the children’s drama group Kids @ Play. Her manuscript novel The Choices We Make was short listed for the Gratiaen Prize in 1998 and she is the co-author of the collection of short stories The Rolled Back Beach - Stories from the Tsunami. This Book Buzz will feature a selection of her writing and excerpts will be read by Ashok Ferrey, Lara Modder and Nimaya Harris.

Delon Weerasinghe who has been a part of the book buzz series before, has written professionally for the stage, print, screen, web and radio. Best known perhaps as a playwright, his play Thicker than Blood won the Gratiaen prize in 2005. Delon has also been responsible for the creation and management of WriteClique.net, the British Council’s writing website. A few excerpts from his award winning play Thicker than Blood will be read on the evening as well as an exclusive first look at some new material from an upcoming book.

The Book Buzz will be held on Thursday 11 December at 6.30 p.m. in the British Council hall and will be open to all on a first come- first served basis.
