British Council’s Book Buzz – “Book & Wine tasting” is back! (25/07/2010)

British Council, in partnership with Park Street Mews and Borsao, is proud to present “Book and Wine Tasting” on Monday 2 August at 7.30 p.m. at the Park Street Mews restaurant. Organised as part of the Animating Literature programme, this evening is organised with the key objective of introducing new Sri Lankan and UK writing, along with wines from Spain. The event invites the public to look at literature with a different eye, in order to alter the stereo typed belief that literature is merely ‘a book on a shelf’. What better way to alter one’s perception than a taste of the best wines as the incentive?

Book and Wine Tasting events were initiated in November 2004.  The unique series of events give audiences the chance to taste a variety of wines, while listening to intriguing readings. The various wines are picked to suit the mood and feel of the respective readings – which results in the readings being further enhanced, enjoyed and appreciated by the audience.

This event will feature Sri Lankan contemporary writing by Gratiaen Prize winners Shehan Karunatilleke and Senaka Abeyratne, and contemporary UK writing by Benjamin Zephaniah, Sophie Hannah among others.

The readers include Sean Amarasekera, Ruhanie Perera, Gill Westaway, Kumar Mirchandani and Dilrukshi Fonseka. The readings will be preceded by tasting Spanish wine introduced by Prakash Mirchandani.

Tickets priced at Rs. 1200/= are on sale at the Park Street Mews Restaurant (50/1 Park Street, Colombo 2) and British Council, Colombo (Open Monday to Saturday from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and on Sundays from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.)
