(untitled)

by Namali Premawardhana

This is going to be
the longest poem I ever wrote
because, today has been
Fine.
Aiya always told me that
"Everything's gonna be alright"
I knew that yesterday, and still
I do.

See, I saw a special thing,
It smiled at me,
gave me a sign
This is the story of
what it did in
my life

Once upon a time,
there was a man
and in that same time,
there was a girl
Then
there was a star
So...
they reached in
or it
reached
out

When she got close,
she saw the man
And he smiled
And she said
"it's beautiful"
and he smiled

And they reached
and it glowed
and they reached
and it shone
and it glowed,
This star

This star was on the ground,
you see...
that's why it was special
Stars are not special,
there are so many!!!
But this was on the ground,
so it was special
It was...
Impossible

But it was there
and they saw it,
and they reached for it
She saw it,
she reached for it
He saw it,
he reached for it
And they both reached for it
Both
Together
and it glowed

And they reached
and it glowed
and they reached
and it shone
and it glowed,
and then...

it was gone

and she clutched at
Stones,
Cold
Hard
Heavy
stones

Stars are light
and warm
and soft
and bright
and there are
Rainbows
inside

So she stopped and
looked around
And he said:

"Stars don't lie on the ground,
my girl,
they shine in the sky
Stars cannot be touched,
my girl,
if you get too close they fly"

"Stars don't come to people,
my girl,
they only give them light
Stars can burn your hand,
my girl,
their fire is what makes them bright"

"Stars do not lie on the ground,
my girl,
Stars do not lie on the ground,
my girl,
my girl,
my girl..."

His girl

But his girl,
Knew.
It was there
Why was it not?
It was there!

So she stopped and
looked around
And he said:

"Turn and walk away,
my girl,
the star, it is not there
Turn and walk away,
my girl,
in a day, you will not care"

"Turn and walk away,
my girl,
the star, it was not real
Turn and walk away,
my girl,
before you begin to feel"

"Turn and walk away,
my girl,
Turn and walk away,
my girl,
my girl,
my girl..."

Your girl

I saw the star!
It was there!!
This cannot be!!!

"The star, it was not real"

So I was just imagining
And this could not be happening. But,

wait!

If it was not real,
my boy,
if it was not real,
Then how did you,
my boy,
then how did you...

How did you...
know

It was there?
